A recent Anderson Analytics research study provides some really interesting information on the demographics of the users on the top social networking Sites.

Quick summary:

  • Facebook users are older, whiter, and loyal
  • MySpace users are younger, less educated and their numbers are dwindling
  • LinkedIn users make the most money and have the highest male:female ratio
  • Twitter users are more likely to have part-time jobs and not that loyal to the application

None of these finding are groundbreaking but it does help to have statistical data to support what most people already suspected.  These studies were most likely conducted so advertisers would be know where and how to place their effort.  However, as a learning professional who teaches people how to use these technologies it’s helpful for me to know who my target audience is.   Apparently those PT Twitter folks will be able to attend classes during normal working hours.
